A hacking group called LockBit has set a deadline for authorities to comply with their demands related to President Donald Trump’s court documents in Georgia.

They threatened to release these documents unless a ransom is paid.

The group has a history of successful ransom negotiations and operates by leasing out ransomware tools to other hackers.

The CEO of a cybersecurity firm warned that not all promises may be honored even if demands are met.

“Even if one could discern the organization’s motives outside of the obvious financial one, the same cannot be said for all its partners and affiliates,” CybSafe CEO Oz Alashe said.

“It’s always difficult to discern the meaning of messages like the one published by LockBit on Saturday,” he said.

“Whether the declaration of support for Trump is genuine, posturing aimed at taunting what they see as ‘strong competitors and the FBI,’ or even an attempt to grab headlines, we don’t know,” he added.

LockBit also expressed support for Trump, criticizing Biden and the FBI.
