An illegal immigrant from Mexico has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Washington State Trooper Christopher Gadd.
According to eyewitnesses, 33-year-old Raul Benitez Santana was speeding and swerving and crashed into Gadd’s patrol vehicle on the side of an interstate.
Santana had bloodshot eyes and admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking beers before driving.

Immigration officials confirmed Santana had been living illegally in Washington for over a decade, having previously been arrested and incarcerated for driving without a license, marijuana possession, and domestic violence charges.
Due to Washington’s sanctuary policies, Santana was never turned over to immigration authorities despite his prior arrests.
