Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin endorsed Donald Trump for president after Nikki Haley dropped out of the race, making Trump the Republican Party’s presumptive 2024 nominee.
Youngkin praised Trump’s record on border security, American leadership, taxes, and costs of living, contrasting it with President Biden’s policies.
He called for uniting behind strong leadership.

“Voters in the Commonwealth and across the country have spoken loudly for President Donald J. Trump and I endorse him for President of the United States,” Youngkin said. “His record on border security, restoring American leadership around the world, reducing taxes and lowering the cost of living for all Americans stands in stark contrast to the open borders, failed leadership on the global stage, rampant inflation and higher costs of today.”
“It’s time to unite around strong leadership and policies that grow our great nation, not four more years of President Biden,” Youngkin added.
Nikki Haley suspended her campaign without endorsing Trump, saying he must now earn votes beyond his base.
While congratulating Trump, she advised never following crowds and making one’s own decisions, alluding to her pledge to support the nominee.
“In all likelihood, Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee when our party convention meets in July,” Haley said. “I congratulate him and wish him well. I wish anyone well who would be America’s president. Our country is too precious to let our differences divide us. I have always been a conservative Republican and always supported the Republican nominee. But on this question, as she did on so many others, Margaret Thatcher provided some good advice, when she said, ‘never just follow the crowd, always make up your own mind.’”
“It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him,” she added. “And I hope he does that. At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away. And our conservative cause badly needs more people. This is now his time for choosing.”
Haley’s departures increased Trump’s already large lead in delegates as he nears officially clinching the nomination for the 2024 Republican presidential race.
