A Gold Star father, Steve Nikoui, was arrested after shouting criticisms at President Biden during the State of the Union address.
Nikoui is the father of a U.S. Marine who was killed during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
During Biden’s speech, Nikoui stood up in the House Galleries and repeatedly yelled “Abbey Gate,” the site of a deadly suicide bombing during the evacuation.
When security confronted him and demanded he stop, Nikoui refused and continued shouting.
He was then escorted out of the galleries and arrested by Capitol Police for disorderly conduct.
Nikoui had been invited as a guest of Rep. Brian Mast, who said he brought Nikoui to remind Biden of the damage done to national security and American families.
“By inviting Steve to join the State of the Union, I am reminding President Biden of the damage he has done to national security and American families,” Mast wrote.
The incident illustrated the strong feelings still held by some over the Afghanistan withdrawal.
