Many female Democratic lawmakers wore white to the State of the Union to show support for abortion rights.
The Democratic Women’s Caucus had encouraged the dress code and distributed “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom” pins.
“Our message is clear: women must be able to access the health care they need to control their own lives and futures. That means women, not politicians, should be in charge of whether, when, and how to start or grow their families. That includes access to birth control, access to abortion, and access to IVF,” caucus chair Rep. Lois Frankel said.

Wearing white is meant to evoke the suffragette movement.
President Biden is expected to push for abortion access in his speech.
Democrats have brought guests with abortion stories and IVF experts to highlight the issue, as their strategy is largely to portray Republicans who support pro-life laws as extreme.
Democrats are also seizing on an Alabama ruling that considered frozen embryos as unborn children to suspend some IVF clinics there.
Senators Kaine and Duckworth brought guests related to IVF to emphasize fertility issues.
Democrats aim to make abortion a central issue ahead of the 2024 election.
