In response to being ordered to pay $454 million in his New York civil fraud case, Donald Trump offered to post a $100 million bond, less than a quarter of the full amount.

His attorneys called the $454 million penalty unconstitutional and requested an emergency stay while appealing.

The judge denied this and said Trump must post a bond for the full amount.

Trump’s team then stated he would likely need to sell properties without a stay.

“In the absence of a stay on the terms herein outlined, properties would likely need to be sold to raise capital,” the filing read.

The New York Attorney General opposed the stay request, noting Trump lacks liquid assets to pay and would need to raise capital.

This $454 million penalty is separate from other legal amounts Trump faces, as the former president deals with multiple ongoing criminal and civil cases.
