Hunter Biden arrived on Capitol Hill to testify before a Republican-led investigation into his business dealings, which Rep. James Comer labeled a “great deposition,” adding that Hunter will later testify publicly.
The investigation relates to Hunter Biden’s work for Ukrainian energy company Burisma while his father Joe Biden was vice president, among other financial matters.
Biden appeared with his attorney for a closed-door deposition to cooperate with the Republican probe.
“I think this was a great deposition for us,” Comer said.
“It proved several bits of our evidence that we’ve been conducting throughout this investigation,” he said. “But there are also some contradictory statements that I think need further reviews.”
“So this impeachment inquiry will now go to the next phase, which will be a public hearing,” Comer added.
The investigation was launched by Republicans to scrutinize Hunter Biden’s business activities abroad and claims of improper influence related to his father’s political role.
