Elon Musk reassured podcaster Tim Pool that Twitter would not enforce policies prohibiting targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals outside of Brazil.

Pool had threatened to cancel ad spending and verified accounts after reports that such a policy was being reinstated.

“I will be terminating all ad spend commitments and verified accounts over X reinstating the misgendering policy,” Pool said.

Musk clarified the policy was only due to a Brazilian court ruling and would not apply elsewhere.

“Turns out this was due to a court judgment in Brazil, which is being appealed, but should not apply outside of Brazil,” Musk said.

X “will reduce the visibility of posts that purposefully use different pronouns to address someone other than what that person uses for themselves, or that use a previous name that someone no longer goes by as part of their transition,” the company’s website read.

“Hateful conduct,” Pool said. “X is the woke mind virus,” adding, “I hope this gets resolved.”

“Fixing,” Musk said.

“I should always wait because you do always seem to do the right thing or try your best,” Pool said. “Massive respect.”

He agreed with Pool that there was no need for such a policy on Twitter, saying harassment could be addressed through blocking.

“There is no reason to have a misgendering or deadnaming policy,” Pool added. “If someone is harassing then you can block them.”

“I agree,” Musk said.

“X is the only platform where the owner treats you like the customer and tries to engage and make it better,” Pool said. “Thanks @elonmusk.”

Their exchange highlighted Musk’s direct engagement with users on the platform and his stated commitment to not enforcing gender identity policies beyond what is legally required.

Musk’s responses appeared to satisfy Pool’s concerns about Twitter taking a “woke” approach to gender issues under its new ownership.
