Former NBA prospect and actor Rashid Byrd was sentenced to 90 years to life in prison for a string of sexual assaults committed between 2015 and 2020.
Byrd had previously been convicted of sexual assault in 2010 and arrested for another assault in 2005.
The Los Angeles Police Department said, “During their investigation, detectives learned in 2010, Byrd was convicted of sexual assault involving a different victim.”

“Detectives also discovered that Byrd had been arrested for sexually assaulting a young woman in Washington State in 2005,” said the LAPD.
His victims described him as initially charming but that facade quickly faded into rape and violence.
LAPD Detective Dara Brown said, “He started as a charmer, playing up his status as an athlete and pseudo-celebrity, but that quickly faded into rapes and violence.”
Brown said, “The Los Angeles Police Department is grateful for the brave women who came forward to tell their stories.”
She continued, “While this investigation has gone on for years, we are thankful that Byrd is no longer on the streets.”
Byrd played briefly in the NBA Development League and signed with the Sacramento Kings but never played in the NBA.
He was also featured in the movies “Semi Pro” and a documentary.
Byrd was arrested in 2020 and remained jailed on $4.15 million bail until his sentencing, with the LAPD grateful to the victims for coming forward.
