Former President Trump visited Eagle Pass, Texas to discuss the border situation. He blamed the murder of nursing student Laken Riley in Georgia and other crimes on the “Joe Biden Invasion” since Biden canceled his strict border policies on January 21, 2021.
Trump touted progress under his administration, including ending catch and release, building over 500 miles of border wall, and policies like Remain in Mexico and Asylum Cooperative Agreements.
“We ended catch and release, we built 571 miles of border wall, much more than I promised I would build.” Trump said.
“We purchased another 200 miles (of wall materials), and they sold that — much of it for five cents on the dollar,” he added.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott touted Operation Lone Star’s successes in arrests, seizures and border barrier construction.
His office reported over 40,000 criminal arrests and seizure of over 114 million lethal doses of fentanyl.
Abbott also announced plans for an Army National Guard base near Eagle Pass to house up to 2,300 soldiers.
Both leaders then departed after brief remarks at a small border park where crossings had dropped from a December high of over 71,000 to around 13,000 in February.
