Senator Mitt Romney said he would not vote for Donald Trump in 2024, citing both policy disagreements and major concerns about Trump’s character.
Sen. Mitt Romney, said, “No, no, no, absolutely not.”
While agreeing with parts of Trump’s domestic agenda, Romney disagreed with his foreign policy views.

More importantly, Romney said America’s strong character has been key to its global leadership, but having a president as “morally defaulted” as Trump would greatly damage the nation’s character.
Romney said, “But there’s another dimension besides policy, and that’s character.”
“And I think what America is as a nation, what has allowed us to be the most powerful nation on Earth and the leader of the Earth, is the character of the people who have been our leaders, past presidents, but also mothers, fathers, church leaders, university presidents and so forth,” said Romney.
Romney said, “Having a president who is so defaulted of character would have an enormous impact on the character of America. And for me, that’s the primary consideration.”
Romney did not vote for Trump in 2016 or 2020 and said he would not vote for him if he was the 2024 nominee.
The two Republicans have had a contentious relationship for years, with Romney delivering a 2016 speech condemning Trump and later becoming one of the few GOP senators to vote to impeach Trump.
“It’s pretty straightforward. It’s the same thing I’ve done in the past. I’ll vote for Ann Romney, who’ll be a terrific president,” said Romney.
Romney previously said, “He’s playing the American public for suckers.”
Romney will retire from the Senate rather than seek reelection this year.
