A 2-year-old boy was accidentally killed and his mother injured in a shooting in Maryland.
One of the suspects, 25-year-old Nilson Trejo-Granados, was identified as an illegal immigrant who had previously been arrested twice by local police but released despite ICE detainer requests for his deportation.
Trejo-Granados was part of a group of five men charged with stealing a vehicle and driving to the shooting.
Had he been deported as ordered after his first arrest last year, it’s possible the shooting may not have occurred, though the other suspects could still have carried it out.
The boy’s family is understandably angry that local officials ignored ICE requests and put the community at risk by releasing a criminal immigrant back on the streets.
