Jimmy Fallon commented on Mitch McConnell’s decision to step down as Senate Minority Leader.
Fallon joked that McConnell, who is 82, must be running for president since he’s giving up his leadership post.
“After nearly two decades as the Republican Leader of the Senate, McConnell is stepping down,” Fallon said. “McConnell just turned 82, so that can only mean one thing. He’s running for president.”
He added that while McConnell said it’s time for the next generation of leadership, the next generation in the Senate is around age 75.
“McConnell said that it’s time for the next generation of leadership,” he said. “Then he looked around the Senate and realized the next generation is 75.”
Fallon was noting McConnell’s long career, as he has served in the Senate since 1985 and as Republican leader since 2007.
