Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, expressed hope in an interview that Joe Biden will win reelection as US president in November.

Lula said Biden is more likely to defend democracy in the US and worldwide compared to potential Republican opponent Donald Trump.

He reportedly told reporters, “Although I am not a U.S. voter, I think it’s obvious that Biden is a greater guarantee for the survival of democracy in the world and the United States.”

Adding, “Since the beginning (of his term) Biden has positioned himself in defense of workers. I hope Biden wins the election.”

Lula noted he has a good relationship with Biden and praised his support for workers’ rights, though they disagree on Israel policy.

He defeated Jair Bolsonaro, who is often compared to Trump, in Brazil’s recent election.

Lula has called Bolsonaro a “copy” of Trump and said Biden was quick to congratulate him on his victory.
