President Biden visited Brownsville, Texas, a less-trafficked town on the U.S.-Mexico border, aiming to address his low approval ratings on border issues.
In contrast, former President Trump visited Eagle Pass, Texas, a highly-trafficked area.
Biden’s visit is part of his push for a bipartisan border agreement to enhance border security, tighten asylum rules, combat fentanyl smuggling, and increase support for communities and NGOs aiding migrants.
“He will discuss the urgent need to pass the Senate bipartisan border security agreement, the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border in decades,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
“He will reiterate his calls for congressional Republicans to stop playing politics and to provide the funding needed for additional U.S. Border Patrol agents, more asylum officers, fentanyl detection technology and more.
