Rep. Mark Green, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is reconsidering retirement after Tennessee GOP members urged him to stay.
His retirement announcement followed the House’s impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn said, “I am hoping Mark Green will reconsider and get back in TN7. Mark is a solid conservative, and we need him to continue his work on the border.”
Border Patrol agents express frustration with Mayorkas and call for his impeachment, citing chaos at the border and lack of consequences for smugglers.
A Border Patrol veteran reportedly said, “There are no consequences for smugglers right now. We have so many [people who fail to yield to agents] and smugglers loading [vehicles with illegal immigrants] right on the border.”
“Smuggling is at the highest. They know we won’t prosecute them,” added a second agent.
“He let it get out of control. He is responsible as head of this agency,” the agent continued.
A third agent said, “I want to see him GONE!”
The agent added, “Realistically speaking, nothing will happen.”
A fourth Border Patrol official, who reportedly works at the headquarters office said about Mayorkas’ impeachment, “For the most part, everyone I’ve spoken to is content that it’s happened.”
“It’s big, but we’re worried that the position will be filled with someone equal or worse than him,” they agent explained.
Despite the House’s impeachment vote, agents doubt any significant change will occur, leading to demoralization within the Border Patrol.
