Former President Donald Trump addressed supporters in South Carolina after a decisive victory in the Republican primary.
While always favored to win his home state, Trump was declared the winner minutes after polls closed, shocking many with the speed and scale of his win.
Surrounded by allies like Senators Tim Scott and Matt Gaetz, Trump told the energized crowd he received double the record number of votes ever seen in South Carolina.
“This was a little sooner than we anticipated. And even bigger win than we anticipated. And I was just informed that we got double the number of votes that has ever been received in the great state of South Carolina,” Trump said.
“So, it’s a record times two. And there’s something going on in the country,” he said.
This win follows earlier blowouts in other early voting states.
Both Trump and challenger Nikki Haley now turn their focus to the upcoming Michigan primary, where Trump is heavily favored to win again despite Haley’s commitment to remaining in the race.
