The U.S. Border Patrol Union criticizes President Biden for his delayed visit to the chaotic southwest border, coinciding with a planned visit by former President Trump.
The issue of illegal immigration has become a top concern for many Americans.
Biden’s visit to Brownsville, Texas, is seen as a response to mounting criticism, with Republicans and Border Patrol agents blaming him for the surge in illegal immigration due to policy changes.
“Biden’s visit comes after more than 7.2 million illegal aliens, a number greater than the population of 36 U.S. states, have flooded into the U.S. throughout his first three years in office,” according to the Daily Wire.
“The issue has become a serious threat to Biden’s re-election as polling has shown that the overwhelming majority of Americans disapprove of what is happening at the border, and they blame Biden for it,” the outlet continued.
The Trump campaign views Biden’s visit as a political move to counter Trump’s actions.
The Trump campaign called Biden’s visit a “last-minute, insincere attempt to chase President Trump to the border.”
Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, said, “Crooked Joe Biden has had three years to visit the border and fix the crisis he created.”
“Now Biden’s handlers are sending him there on the same day as President Trump’s publicly reported trip, not because they actually want to solve the problem, but because they know Biden is losing terribly,” she continued.
The Border Patrol union deems Biden’s visit as too little, too late, questioning its sincerity and emphasizing the need for border security over political agendas.
The Border Patrol’s union wrote, “But even if he were to put the proper policies in place at this late hour, he’d be doing it only to try to save his Presidency. And self-serving actions when time is winding down should always give Americans pause. Common sense dictates that as a lame duck, he’d revert to his open border policies if re-elected.”
“Biden is going to the border now solely to try to save himself. Border security should never be about politics, it should always be about the safety and security of this great nation and the American people,” the statement continued.
Biden’s administration is working on a mix of border enforcement and legal avenues for migrants, while the outdated immigration system struggles to cope with the influx at the U.S.-Mexico border.
