Campaign finance reports show two key Trump political committees raised just $13.8 million in January while spending more than they brought in.

A major expense was millions in legal fees from Trump’s ongoing court cases.

This presents a challenge as some donors are reluctant to subsidize his legal battles and are instead backing Nikki Haley, who raised nearly $3 million more than Trump last month.

Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt wrote in a statement, “President Trump’s campaign is fueled by small dollar donors across the country from every background who are sick and tired of Crooked Joe Biden’s record-high inflation, wide open border invasion, crime and chaos.”

“Voters don’t want four more years of misery and destruction,” she continued.

Legal costs accounted for $3.7 million of the $15 million spent.

Save America received a $5 million refund from a pro-Trump super PAC but still had $2 million in unpaid legal debts.

This leaves Trump with $36.6 million cash on hand compared to Biden’s $132 million.

His legal issues and spending could drain Republican finances as he takes over the cash-strapped RNC.

Haley’s communications director, Nachama Soloveichik, wrote, “His endless drama and legal bills will deplete the Republican Party and bring even more electoral losses.”

Lara Trump recently said, “Every single penny will go to the No. 1 and the only job of the RNC. That is electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States.”

Democrats say Trump enters the general election with the weakest campaign operation in recent history due to legal costs and fundraising struggles.

Ammar Moussa, a Biden campaign spokesman said, “It’s been a tough couple of weeks if you are Donald Trump and also like money.”

“The RNC had its worst fundraising year in decades, is hemorrhaging cash, and now Trump enters the general election with the weakest operation in recent history,” continued the spokesman.
