California Governor Gavin Newsom said President Biden should “100%” debate former President Trump in the 2024 election.
Newsom argued on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Biden beat Trump in their prior debates and Trump is weak for refusing debates in his own primary campaign.
“100%,” Newsom said. “Pure projection on a guy who refused to debate in his own primary. Back to my point: weakness masquerading as strength.”

Newsom defended Biden against concerns about his age, claiming it’s why he’s been successful.
Newsom is seen as a potential future Democratic presidential candidate and has been a vocal Biden supporter.
“It’s because of his age that he’s been so successful,” Newsom said.
However, Trump criticized Newsom at CPAC, saying he hopes Newsom runs for president because he “destroyed California.”
“A lot of people think Gavin Newsom is going to run. In a certain way, I hope so,” Trump said. “I hope so. Because he’s destroyed California.”
Newsom and Trump represent the two frontrunners in their parties as Biden and Trump appear headed for a 2020 rematch, but primary seasons are still ongoing and some speculate presidential debates may not occur.
