Sportscaster Bob Costas has strongly criticized former President Donald Trump and his supporters. During a CNN segment, Costas referred to Trump as “the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history.”

He said that to believe Trump was fit for the presidency, “you have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion, in a toxic cult.”

CNN’s Michael Smerconish questioned Costas as to whether he is still opposed to Trump.

“Yes, absolutely. He is by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history,” Costas said.

“You have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion, in a toxic cult, to believe that Donald Trump has ever been in any sense emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit to be President of the United States,” he said.

Costas has repeatedly labeled Trump’s 74 million voters as “cultists.”

He criticized Fox News and the “MAGA media” for brushing aside criticisms of Trump.

“But his supporters are locked in on that. There is no cult of Joe Biden.”

“They are devoted to him, hopelessly, devoted as an old-song lyric went. And yet, what is his level of devotion to anyone who is not 100% loyal to him? Exhibit A, Mike Pence,” Costas said in 2021.

“They call themselves patriots, ‘we’re true American patriots.’ Who tried to overthrow the election? Who tried? It’s on tape. The phone call to election officials in Georgia and everywhere. All these things that are preposterous, on their face. And yet, if you are a member of a cult, you’re down the line with that cult.”

“The MAGA cult, which is a coalition of the brainless and when it comes to fellow Republicans, the spineless, that coalition is not going away,” Costas said in early 2024.
