Three Kentucky Fried Chicken locations abruptly closed on Chicago’s South Side, upsetting the local alderman.
Ald. William Hall of the 6th Ward said, “A closed business is not only a sore eye, but it’s a gateway for violence because when you see abandonment, it looks as if there is no love, no hope in the community.”
He continued, “It’s something we’re seeing across the city, but nevertheless, [in] neighborhoods, it hits differently.”
He added, “Any job lost is a life lost, in my opinion, because everyone deserves the opportunity to make an honest and clean living.”
Some have suggested that the businesses wisely chose to close abruptly rather than announce it and face protests.
They note Democrats’ policies have made it impossible for businesses to operate safely due to lack of consequences for crime.
Voters in these areas continue electing officials like the alderman despite worsening conditions, representing their choice.
When chain stores leave, residents have to pay higher prices at remaining local stores.
