A Venezuelan migrant influencer with over 300,000 TikTok followers, Leonal Moreno, appealed to his fans to support 15-year-old Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa, who is accused of shooting a woman in New York’s Times Square earlier this month.

Moreno asked followers to donate to Rivas-Figueroa’s legal fees and said Venezuelans should unite behind the teen during this difficult time.

“I invite you to find [his] mother and [for] all of us to unite to pay the fines [so] that the young Venezuelan feels that he’s not alone during difficult moments. Remember that up there there’s a God who sees everything [down here],” Moreno said.

He claimed Rivas-Figueroa will be released because he is a minor, saying people don’t know when they might find themselves in a similar situation.

“An entire nation [is] on top of him instead of helping him – remember that the young man is going to be released. And he will be released, do you know why? Because he’s underage,” he said. “You don’t know when God is going to put you in a situation like the one this young man is in.”

Moreno asked people to “unite forces so that this child can be free and has an opportunity.”

Rivas-Figueroa is accused of opening fire after being stopped for shoplifting in Times Square, hitting a tourist and later firing at police while fleeing on the subway, though no additional shots hit anyone.

He is being held without bail deemed a high risk.
