Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs expressed frustration with decades of inaction on border issues from both Republican and Democratic administrations.

While she sent National Guard troops to the border, Hobbs said as a border state leader she needs to see “something” from President Biden to address the situation and bring “sanity and an end to the lawlessness.”

“Gov. Hobbs, as a border state Governor, you’ve sent the National Guard down to the border. When you hear that President Biden might prevent people who cross the border illegally from seeking asylum in an effort to reduce the flow, is that what you’re looking for?” Abby Phillip asked.

Specifically asked about Biden potentially blocking asylum claims for those crossing illegally, Hobbs avoided a direct response but reiterated the need for action given congressional failure to pass bipartisan bills.

“We need something. And we are dealing with decades of the inaction from both Republican and Democratic administrations, and now, certainly, Congress for refusing to pass this bipartisan legislation that was presented,” Hobbs said.

“Americans want sanity and an end to the lawlessness at the border,” she said.

Her comments signaled openness to stronger executive measures from Biden despite a wish for legislative solutions, reflecting the pressure on border state officials for immigration reforms.
