An illegal immigrant from Mexico, Jorge Sanchez-Tzanhua, has been charged with felony homicide and drunk driving in Rusk County, Wisconsin after a January 30th car crash that killed 35-year-old Steven Nasholm.

According to police, Sanchez-Tzanhua was driving drunk in an SUV when he crashed into Nasholm’s semi-truck, causing injuries that led to his death.

“Day in and day out, we see the tragic consequences of illegal immigration in America, and the Biden administration’s open border policies have only made it worse,” Rep. Tom Tiffany said. “How many more Americans have to die before Democrats secure the border?”

ICE officials confirmed Sanchez-Tzanhua entered the US illegally years ago and should have been deported after a previous drunk driving conviction in 2023.

Nasholm leaves behind a wife and three young daughters.

“Steve was a loving father and husband who was quick-witted and never refrained from sharing jokes (with a disregard for appropriateness!),” his obituary states. “He loved tractors, bear hunting with his hounds, driving semis and motorcycles, and fixing lawnmowers and ATVs.”

The case has highlighted concerns over the impact of illegal immigration and calls to secure the border, as the victim’s family establishes a GoFundMe and Sanchez-Tzanhua remains jailed.
