A bill in Illinois proposes changing the definition of “abused child” to include minors whose parents do not consent to puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or gender transition surgeries and procedures.

The bill would allow minors to consent to these treatments themselves without parental involvement.

Doctors would not need parental consent and would be shielded from liability if they provide such care to minors.

The Department of Children and Family Services could remove children from their parents’ custody if not allowing these treatments.

The bill aims to grant minors the same legal status as adults for consenting to abortion and gender transition treatments.
