Louisiana’s Senate passed a bill to allow constitutional carry of handguns without a permit.
Known as Senate Bill 1, it passed along party lines with 28 Republican votes in favor and 10 of 11 Democrats opposed.
One Democrat, State Sen. Jay Luneau, did not vote.
The bill now moves to the House for consideration.
If passed by the House and signed by Governor Jeff Landry, Louisiana would become the 29th state to allow constitutional carry, also known as permitless carry.
