A financial disclosure has revealed that Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the case against Donald Trump in Fulton County, Georgia, donated $150 to District Attorney Fani Willis’ campaign in 2020.
McAfee’s wife also donated to Willis’ campaigns. While the donations were nominal, it raises questions about judicial independence given the nationally high-profile nature of the Trump case.
McAfee had previously worked under Willis at the Fulton County DA’s office, including being promoted during her leadership.
Legal experts note that while the donation itself was small, the failure to disclose it to defendants could create an appearance of a conflict of interest for the judge.
The timing of the disclosure is notable as the case against Trump continues under McAfee’s oversight.
