California authorities arrested a man in Richmond last month after discovering an extensive illegal firearms cache at his home, including 248 guns and over 1 million rounds of ammunition.
The collection comprised 11 machine guns, 133 handguns, 37 rifles, 60 assault rifles, and other firearms.
They also found 3,000 high-capacity magazines, several grenades (later deemed inert), 20 silencers, and four flare guns.
The man was legally barred from possessing weapons.
The state Attorney General highlighted the arrest, noting the large quantities allegedly showed the importance of tracking those who become prohibited from owning firearms after initial legal purchase.
“In our efforts to retrieve guns from a prohibited individual, we found hundreds of allegedly illegal weapons and approximately one million rounds of ammunition,” Attorney General Rob Bonta said.
Possessing machine guns is generally illegal in California, which has strict gun control laws.
The case demonstrated ongoing enforcement efforts to retrieve weapons from prohibited individuals.
