The U.S. Supreme Court declined to rule on the legality of excluding jurors based on religion in a workplace bias lawsuit involving a lesbian worker, Jean Finney, against the Missouri Department of Corrections.
The state’s appeal was based on the removal of three jurors expressing Christian beliefs against homosexuality during jury selection.
Finney won the case, receiving $275,000 for discrimination claims.
The lower court’s decision to exclude biased jurors was upheld, emphasizing the importance of addressing bias in jury selection.
