Concerns are growing about President Biden’s mental acuity and risk of falling due to his age of 81.
The Secret Service has taken additional precautions to ensure Biden’s safety when boarding Air Force One, including having an agent watch the stairs he uses.
Biden has previously stumbled on Air Force One stairs.
His team limits stair climbs and has him wear sneakers more often.
“Mr. Biden will likely present himself to the jury, as he did during his interview with our office, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur wrote. “It would be difficult to convince a jury they should convict him – by then a former president who will be at least well into his eighties – of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”
The special counsel investigating Biden’s handling of classified documents declined to prosecute partly because a jury might see Biden as too old and forgetful to have criminal intent due to his “diminished faculties in advancing age.”
Critics argue Biden appears confused at times and question his ability to make important presidential decisions like on national security issues.
“Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency, when he was a private citizen,” the report read.
The report and concerns reflect ongoing scrutiny of Biden’s age as the oldest person ever serving as president.
“Every time he (Biden) talks, he’s confused,” Rep. Rich McCormick said.
“If he’s not taken by the arm and shown where to go, he doesn’t know where to walk. Biden could be at the White House and try to go through the wrong entrance. He could be on stage and not know which direction to go. He doesn’t know who’s standing next to him. Biden doesn’t even know where he’s going,” McCormick said.
“This is just a confused old man. Now, the whole problem with the whole prosecution issue is I’m more concerned about presidential decisions,” he said.
“We’re talking about a guy who has the keys to nuclear arms. You’re talking about a guy who makes decisions on who to attack,” he added.
