Russian authorities arrested a dual U.S.-Russian citizen on suspicion of treason for raising funds for Ukraine’s military.

A Los Angeles resident was arrested for “high treason” for donating $51.80 to a nonprofit benefitting Ukraine. She has been identified as 33-year-old Ksenia Khavana, the Associated Press reported.

She was apprehended in Yekaterinburg, where a Wall Street Journal reporter was detained last year.

The Russian FSB stated that she was gathering funds for a Ukrainian organization to support Ukraine’s army.

“The Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg suppressed the illegal activities of a 33-year-old resident of Los Angeles, who has dual citizenship of Russia and the United States,” they said.

Notably, the detention of the Wall Street Journal reporter, Evan Gershkovich, was extended, with his release now postponed until at least March 30.

Other cases involving U.S. citizens detained in Russia, such as Robert Woodland Romanov on drug charges, Alsu Kurmasheva for acting as an unregistered foreign agent, and Paul Whelan on disputed espionage charges, have caused tension between the two countries.
