City officials in Arizona surprised residents by placing a realistic foam alligator in a local pond at Riverview Park in Mesa.
The fake alligator, along with other foam animals, was intended to provide a gathering spot for turtles and birds.
Despite causing alarm among some residents, the fake alligator was not meant to scare people.
The Mesa Police Department received 911 calls about the fake reptiles, with one caller claiming the alligator bit a fishing line.
A 911 caller reportedly said, “I’m at Riverview Park and I think there’s an alligator…it’s just kind of hanging out.”
“There’s like three live alligators in here,” reported another witness.
“There’s one under the bridge. Right now, I’m just looking at one that’s swimming around,” a third caller told officials.
