A police officer in South Bend, Indiana rescued a stray Doberman pinscher named Zeus that had been found with its snout zip-tied shut.
The officer, Stephanie Northcutt, developed an instant bond with the frightened dog and decided to adopt Zeus after bringing him home and introducing him to her other pets.
The South Bend Police Department posted, “Officer Northcutt said she knew the moment she laid eyes on the pup that he was the perfect addition to her family.”
“SBARC’s team says Zeus will likely not suffer any long-term physical effects from his injuries and is doing extremely well despite the bad hand he was dealt,” their post continued.
The department revealed, “Zeus is actually the second dog that Officer Northcutt has rescued from a tough situation while on patrol.”
Northcutt worked with the local animal resource center to formally adopt Zeus, who is expected to make a full recovery despite the abuse.
This was the second animal Northcutt had rescued while on patrol duty.
Northcutt’s colleagues recalled, “She joked that the dispatchers at St Joseph County 9-1-1 should stop sending her to animal calls because she will soon run out of room at her house!”
“This makes me cry! Thank you for rescuing this sweet baby!!!” exclaimed a Facebook user.
“What A Beautiful Dog, Dobermans are special dogs!” commented another user. “So glad you found this sweet boy and helped him,” cheered a third supporter.
The kindhearted officer’s decision to adopt Zeus after his rescue received praise from the community on social media, with many thanking her for rescuing the sweet dog.
The police department continues to investigate how Zeus came to be abused and left stray with his snout zip-tied.
