White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre avoided confirming if Washington, DC, is safe for Americans to visit.

She emphasized that all violent crime is unacceptable and highlighted the importance of ensuring communities feel safe.

A reporter asked, “In DC, homicides are up. Crime is up. Carjacking is spiking. Simple question: does the president believe the nation’s capital is safe for Americans from across the country to come and visit?”

“I mean, look …” began the Press Secretary.

“All violent crime, anywhere, is completely unacceptable, not just here in D.C.,” continued Jean-Pierre.

She added, “The president is wanting to make sure that communities feel safe, and we’re not seeing that from congressional Republicans, we’re just not. They continue to get in the way.”

The discussion arose after the shooting of three D.C. Metro police officers, with Jean-Pierre not addressing the incident until prompted by a reporter.

The press conference did not mention the recent surge in crime in major cities, including D.C.
