Veteran CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge was among employees laid off by the network amid budget cuts.
Sources said Herridge faced “internal roadblocks” over her coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Staffers were reportedly shocked by her firing given her credibility and experience working in the Washington D.C. bureau.
Herridge had also clashed with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian Matthews over hiring practices.
Her dismissal drew criticism from media figures who praised Herridge as a “national treasure” and accused CBS executives of cowardice.

“Herridge was fired just hours after she reported on how Biden may have ‘retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings,'” Trending Politics co-owner Collin Rugg wrote on X. “Wild.”
Some noted the timing of her firing shortly after reporting on documents related to Biden’s family foreign business dealings, raising questions about the network’s political biases.
