President Biden issued a memorandum providing Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Palestinians in the US, shielding them from deportation for at least 18 months.
This was in response to conflict in Israel and Hamas.
The memorandum also directs DHS to open employment to Palestinians with DED and loosen student visa work regulations.
“I am directing the deferral of removal of certain Palestinians who are present in the United States,” Biden wrote. “I have determined that it is in the foreign policy interest of the United States to defer for 18 months the removal of any Palestinian subject to the conditions and exceptions provided below.”
Biden’s broader economic agenda has been to significantly expand the US workforce through legal and illegal immigration, which critics say drives down wages.
Data shows millions of foreign workers have been added to the workforce since 2019 while native-born American employment has declined.
Nearly all new jobs in the past year went to foreign-born rather than native-born workers.
The policies benefit business interests seeking lower wages through a larger labor pool but have negatively impacted American workers.
