The Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis faced scrutiny for her romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, an outside prosecutor working on a case against former President Trump.

Despite denying financial benefits, the relationship raised conflict of interest concerns, potentially jeopardizing the case.

“I have been very anxious to have this conversation today,” she said. “I ran to the courtroom. … I am not a hostile witness. I very much want to be here.”

Willis’s testimony revealed details of their relationship, including disagreements and financial transactions.

“He’s a man; he probably would say June or July,” she said of the end of the relationship. “I would say we had a tough conversation in August. Men end relationships at the end of physical intimacy; women end relationships when that tough conversation takes place.”

The courtroom drama unfolded as Willis defended herself against conflict-of-interest allegations.

The case’s future remains uncertain pending a judge’s decision on Willis’s involvement.

“We would have brutal arguments about the fact that I am your equal,” she said. “I don’t need anything from a man; a man is not a plan, a man is a companion. There was tension always in our relationship, which is why I would give him his money back. I don’t need anybody to foot my bills.”

“Your honor,” her father John Floyd III said, “I’m not trying to be racist, OK? But it’s a Black thing, OK? I was trained, and most Black folks, they hide cash or they keep cash.”
