A Chinese immigrant, Kelly Wong, has been elected to San Francisco’s Election Commission as the first non-citizen member after the citizenship requirement was removed in 2020.
Wong, an immigrant rights advocate, aims to help non-English-speaking migrants get involved in the election process by addressing language and cultural barriers.
“I’ve seen how language and cultural barriers prevent immigrants with limited English proficiency from fully exercising their right to vote,” Wong said.
This is Kelly Wong.
She is not an American citizen. She cannot legally vote in this country.
She is now on the San Francisco Elections Commission.
