Walmart is in talks to acquire smart TV maker Vizio for over $2 billion to boost its advertising business.

Owning Vizio would give Walmart access to nearly 18 million active users and Vizio’s growing ad platform.

As Walmart’s ad sales from its Connect business increase, owning Vizio could help provide more screens to display ads.

It would also give Walmart control of around 22% of the US TV market combined with its store brand.

Retail media networks like Walmart Connect are the fastest growing in advertising as companies restrict data sharing.

While a deal could negatively impact Roku, which also sells TVs through Walmart, the discussions are ongoing and no deal is certain.

The decision will come down to Vizio’s founder and CEO.
