LeBron James is considering participating in the Paris Olympics this summer while also contemplating extending his NBA career for a few more seasons, ideally ending it as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
His health is a top priority in his basketball decisions, with a focus on the current playoffs and a potential USA Basketball commitment.
“The most important thing for me is definitely my health,” James said.
“I told myself before the season, when I committed to being part of the Olympic team, obviously it was all predicated on my health,” James said. “As it stands right now, I am healthy enough to be on the team and perform at a level that I know I can perform at.”
“It’s more miles put on these tires,” he said. “But if I’m committed — which I am — to Team USA, then I’m going to commit my mind, body and soul to being out there for Team USA, being out there representing our country with the utmost respect and go out there and play.”
James, at 39, is nearing several milestones in his career, including reaching 40,000 points.
“I have not mapped out how many seasons I have left,” James said. “I know it’s not that many.”
“I’ve never been that great with accepting praise,” James said. “It’s a weird feeling for me.”
His future plans regarding retirement and free agency remain uncertain, with a preference for quietly exiting the game.
Financial considerations are not a primary concern due to his substantial wealth.
“I am a Laker, and I am happy, very happy, being a Laker the last six years and I hope it stays that way,” James said. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is, or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully, it is with the Lakers. It’s a great organization, with so many greats with it.
“I don’t know how it’s going to end, but it’s coming. It’s coming for sure.”
