Senator Michael Bennet stated there is “no doubt” that Russian President Vladimir Putin was responsible for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
When asked about options in response, Bennet asserted Putin carried out Navalny’s death during the Munich Security Conference to show he does not care what others think and can do as he pleases.
Fox News’ Shannon Bream said, “President Biden had said there would be devastating consequences if Navalny died while he was in Russian custody. It appears that’s happened.”
“You sit on the Senate Intelligence Committee. What options do we have?” she asked Bennet.
Sen. Bennet replied, “Well of all, there’s no doubt that Putin did this.”
“And he did it during the Munich Security Conference just to tell the world that doesn’t care what anybody thinks. And did he could do anything he wants to do,” he continued.
As the most significant pushback, Bennet advocated continuing to fund Ukraine to counter Russia’s illegal invasion, which he described as the first incursion into a free European country challenging the post-World War II order.
“The most significant thing we could do right now to push back on this is to continue to fund Ukraine, to push back on the illegal invasion that Putin has led — the first incursion into a free country in Europe since the World War II order, since the new order after World War II was established and that’s what we should do,” concluded the senator.
He argued the focus should be on supporting Ukraine given Russia’s violation of that nation’s sovereignty.
