Nikki Haley’s recent campaign efforts in South Carolina, marked by a new bus, increased ad spending, and fresh attacks on Donald Trump, have shown a changed political landscape since her last successful bid for governor.

Despite enthusiastic crowds in some areas, she faces great challenges, trailing Trump significantly in polls.

“I am not a fan of Donald Trump,” retired accountant Robert Zangara said. “But I just don’t think she’s going to be the nominee.”

Haley has remained committed to her campaign, emphasizing her willingness to challenge the status quo and downplaying concerns about her political future.

“That’s the problem with politics,” Haley said. “Donald Trump’s worried about his image. Joe Biden’s worried about his image. I’m not worried about mine.”

“I just feel in my heart that she is the best,” Mike Strouse said.

“She’s doing what the textbook of the past says she should do to expand the base but this is absolutely a new era with Donald Trump in the race,” Winthrop Poll director Scott H. Huffmon said.

Her aggressive stance against Trump, including attacks on his mental acuity and legal issues, is a departure from her previous approach and has drawn attention.

However, experts suggest her pivot may not significantly impact Trump’s popularity in the state, especially in more conservative areas.

“The reality of it is, he is probably going to get it for four more years,” Republican Travis South said. “But hopefully, she will be able to come back.”

While she garners support in major metro areas, her success in more conservative regions remains uncertain.
