Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused the Biden administration of quietly rewriting Title IX regulations to impose “gender ideology” in K-12 schools.
DeSantis said the changes would gut protections for girls and women in sports by allowing transgender athletes to compete against females.
DeSantis posted, “The Biden administration is trying to enact a radical re-write of Title IX that will gut protections for women and girls, including with sports.”

“Biden lacks the authority to impose gender ideology on the states and we in Florida reject his attempt to do so,” he continued.
“The Biden administration is plunging ahead with a radical re-write of Title IX, seeking to impose gender ideology on K-12 schools all across the country,”warned DeSantis.
“This will gut protections for girls and for women,” he added.
DeSantis explained, “It will, for example, overrule rules that Florida has enacted that make sure that our girls and women athletes are able to compete with fairness and integrity and that you can’t inject males into those competitions, and that you can’t inject males into women’s bathrooms and locker rooms.”
Adding, “So, they are trying to impose this under administrative rule. They don’t have the authority to do it, and in Florida we will not abide by it.”
He claimed the revisions seek to overrule Florida’s rules ensuring fairness in women’s sports and maintaining separate facilities based on biological sex.
While DeSantis asserted the federal government lacks authority to impose these changes, he made clear Florida will reject attempts to rewrite the anti-discrimination law.
The governor has taken steps in Florida to curb what conservatives see as transgender propaganda, including banning classroom instruction on gender identity and sexuality for young students.
DeSantis views the proposed Title IX revisions as an overreach that undermines state laws regarding gender issues in schools.
