Police investigating the shooting at Kansas City’s Chiefs parade have released one of three initial suspects, leaving two juveniles arrested.
According to reports, the third person held was determined not to be involved and let go, while the other two teenagers remain in custody.
ABC News reported, “Initially, three people were detained as suspects in the shooting but the third person — also a juvenile — has since been determined not to be involved with the shooting and was released from police custody.”
Investigators are working with juvenile prosecutors to review evidence and decide on appropriate charges through the juvenile court system, which will also determine the custody status of the arrested minors.
“[Kansas City Police Chief Stacey] Graves said three people were detained after the incident that left the city reeling following what was supposed to be a day of celebration. Two of those suspects are teenage juveniles. Police said Thursday afternoon a third juvenile who was detained has been released,” KMBC reported.
Kansas City Police wrote in a statement, “The two juveniles are currently being held in custody while we work with juvenile prosecutors to review investigative findings and determine applicable charges. The juvenile court system determines the custody status of all juvenile arrests.”
The shooting wounded over 20 people and killed one, reportedly stemming from a dispute between individuals at the celebration event.
