Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is facing allegations of an improper romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to work on the high-profile election interference case against Donald Trump.

Testimony from a former colleague contradicted Willis’ claims about the timeline of the relationship.

While Willis loudly denied being on trial, Wade’s testimony was more muted and raised further questions, as when he paused for 21 seconds before denying ever booking a cabin with Willis.

Fani Willis said, “You’re confused. You think I’m on trial. These people are on trial for trying to steal an election in 2020. I’m not on trial, no matter how hard you try to put me on trial.”

His explanations for their out-of-state trips together were deemed unconvincing.

The controversy over the relationship has jeopardized the credibility of Willis as lead prosecutor against Trump and could result in her removal from the case if a misconduct finding is made.

Both Willis and Wade may face legal consequences depending on the outcome of the hearing regarding financial conflicts of interest and providing false statements about their relationship history.
