Denali Brehmer, an Alaska woman, was sentenced to 99 years in prison for her role in a murder plot orchestrated by a catfisher who posed as a millionaire.
Brehmer, then 18, convinced four teenagers to carry out the killing, ultimately leading to the death of 19-year-old Cynthia Hoffman.
“She may not have pulled the trigger, but this never would have happened it if it weren’t for Denali Brehmer,” Anchorage Assistant District Attorney Patrick McKay said.
The catfisher, Darin Schilmiller, also received a 99-year sentence.
Brehmer lured Hoffman under false pretenses, and the group bound, shot, and dumped her body in a river.
The case of another individual allegedly involved is pending, and two others were prosecuted in the juvenile justice system.
Schilmiller had asked Brehmer to commit murder and rape for fetishistic reasons, and he also directed her to sexually abuse two victims, leading to additional guilty pleas.
