Donald Trump is seeking a change in leadership at the Republican National Committee (RNC) to install new loyalists, including his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.

Trump wants the current RNC Chair, Ronna McDaniel, to be replaced by Michael Whatley, the North Carolina GOP chairman, with Lara Trump as the new co-chair.

This move reflects Trump’s urgency to unify Republicans behind him for a potential rematch against President Joe Biden.

Trump wrote that Whatley is “committed to election integrity, which we must have to keep fraud out of our election so it can’t be stolen.”

RNC spokesman Keith Schipper said, “Chairwoman McDaniel has been on the road helping elect Republicans up and down the ballot and she will continue working hard to beat Biden this fall. Nothing has changed, and there will be no decision or announcement about future plans until after South Carolina,” he said.

Nikki Haley recently said, “What we saw yesterday was, he took a different approach.”

“Now he has decided he has fired the RNC chair, he’s named who’s going to be the new RNC chair, his daughter-in-law will be the co-chair, and he is making his campaign manager the officer that runs the party. Think about what is happening right now. Is that how you’re going to try and take an election?” she exclaimed.

Central to Trump’s demands are his false theories of voter fraud, which he claims cost him the 2020 election.

The RNC has struggled with fundraising, and Trump’s integration with the committee could potentially benefit both the RNC and his campaign.

However, any leadership changes at the RNC would require an in-person vote by the Republican National Committee.

The Democratic National Committee’s spokesman, Director Alex Floyd, added, “Trump is making it clear that the GOP is the home for insurrectionists and extreme MAGA fanatics.”

“Whatley already threatened our democracy once before when he spread lies about the results of the 2020 election,” he continued.

“Now, Trump is rewarding him in just the latest display that democracy will be on the ballot this November,” concluded the spokesman.
