Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign for New York governor has faced turmoil, with 12 field staff and two main staff resigning in January due to concerns over lavish spending, self-serving leadership, and inexperienced hires.
Campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, RFK Jr.’s daughter-in-law, has been accused of hiring her nanny as chief of staff and approving five-figure monthly payouts to companies tied to campaign officials.
Departing campaign workers criticized the spending as misaligned with the candidate’s message.
A Kennedy campaign worker reportedly told Mediate, “When the reports came out and everyone saw the obscene amount of money some people are making, while they are often paying for their own promotional materials out of pocket and can’t get their gas stipend covered, many people started thinking those people are scamming and skimming to line their pockets.”
“This is out of alignment with the message of the candidate,” they continued.
Fox Kennedy defended the staff turnover but acknowledged over 100 staff and tens of thousands of volunteers.
Fox Kennedy wrote in a statement, “With over a hundred staff members and tens of thousands of volunteers nationwide, Team Kennedy has great folks come and go depending on the needs of each phase of the campaign.”
Kennedy has also spent heavily, burning through $7.7 million in the last quarter while only raising $7 million.
The campaign has faced additional criticism over an unauthorized Super Bowl ad that upset family members.
“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain,” apologized RFK Jr. on X.
“The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super PAC without any involvement or approval from my campaign,” he continued.
