Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing authorities to confiscate assets from those convicted of spreading false information about the military.
The bill was unanimously endorsed by the Russian parliament and includes harsher punishment for those discrediting the country or its troops.
The law targets those convicted of inciting extremist activities or discrediting the armed forces and only allows confiscation of assets gained through criminal means or used against national security.
